Tall Boy

26 pounds
33 inches
You are such a big boy! So tall! Healthy as a horse! So brave for your shots (ouchy)!
Here's to strong and healthy Monkey!

Thank You Monkey

Monkey~

Thank you so much little man for being such a good little boy lately. You have been wonderful for your Mama while Dada has been gone. One week down, two more to go! Each day has been something new, whether it being blowing kisses, telling me "go, go", exploring rocks and sticks, or playing in the dirt. You have discovered the dirt in my flower barrels that is waiting so patiently for the beautiful summer flowers. You dig in and laugh like crazy when you throw it on the ground. It is quite funny! We soaked up the spring sun today, didn't we? You can't get enough and neither can Mama.

You have also discovered how to soak Mama while you are taking a bath. You splash with your feet like a fish out of water and laugh that deep belly laugh you do so well. I can't help but laugh along with you. What's a little wet floor and shirt? It all mops up and changes easily! These are the moments that I want to soak up (literally, I guess) with you because I know they will be fleeting before you move on to something else.

You are the little boy I always dreamed of having. Strong willed yet tenderhearted at the same time. Full of life and laughter going 150 mph all the time yet will snuggle in for a good book anytime. A lover of puppy dogs, airplanes in the sky, dirt and rocks, anything with a motor and wheels, and your hockey sticks. I love that you are starting to show your emotions. Waving bye-bye, blowing kisses, and just tonight, you came up behind me after your bath and wrapped your little arms around me as far as they could reach and laid your head on my shoulder. My heart burst with love for you at that moment. It makes me teary right now just thinking of how that felt. A Mama always looks forward to that first hug, and it was more than I could have ever imagined it would ever feel like. Unbelievable Monkey!! I love you so, so, so very much! Words will never suffice!

XOXO,

Your Mama

Animal Talks

I wish I had a peep hole into your bedroom. You are in there carrying on one heck of a bedtime conversation with your animals. You must have had more to say in your prayers than we talked about. Maybe your singing them a lullaby too! Whatever it is, it's pretty darn cute Monkey!

Good night, sweet dreams, God bless you!!

Blowing Kisses

You blew your first kiss tonight! It was so priceless!

We were telling Grandma and Grandpa goodbye on the web cam. You were waving and saying bye bye. Grandma was blowing you kisses, and you decided to return the gesture! It was so cute! Made me teary (my pregnancy hormones are at full tilt right now). G & G ate it up of course!

Long Time Gone

I've been MIA for a while because we went down to visit my family for my little sis's wedding. It was a great trip but very busy. I didn't get to see the people I wanted to see b/c there was wedding stuff to do! Always makes it harder to go back home. I even thought about extending my ticket, but I didn't want to do the trip home by myself with Monkey. I should have just bit the bullet and done it because my bestest friend in the whole wide world had her third beautiful baby girl the VERY NEXT DAY!! I am so happy for her, but so sad that I was that close to finally sharing a birth with her. Welcome to the world precious one!!

Speaking of babies and births, I never updated about our secret! We are having another little boy!!!!!! I. Am. So. EXCITED!!!! Two little boys! Double the dirt, the hockey sticks, the wrestling matches, the trucks, the shenanigans, and so on and so forth! I'm truly outnumbered now and loving it!! They are going to be the best of buddies.....I can just feel it!!

Back to the trip, the plane ride down was absolutely horrible! Monkey had a meltdown for the entire 5 hour plane ride except for 40 minutes when he finally gave in and fell asleep before we landed. I cried. Hubby's spent a total of almost 2.5 hours in the bathroom, so he didn't disturb people with his screaming. On a positive note, the trip home was great. He's a lot of work to keep occupied for five plus hours, but he wasn't crying!

My sister's wedding was beautiful. She was stunning! She swore it was going to rain on her day, and it did. By the time we walked out of the salon to head to the church, the rain had stopped. When the ceremony was over the sun had broke through. Monkey was the ring bearer! He was so handsome he made me tear up. He looked so big in his tux with his hair all styled courtesy of Dada! He made his entrance to the bridal march because we didn't think he was going to come down the aisle (as it was taking a while for his appearance). Needless to say, everyone was standing by then and staring at him, so I walked back down the aisle and offered a finger to hold. He gladly took my assistance and then monkey shined with everyone as he walked down the aisle!! So cute!!

The weather was great! We went to the zoo! Played outside in our bare feet. Played in the dirt for the first time. Now he can't get enough of the dirt!

The best thing....he now recognizes Bampa (Grandpa) and Bama (Grandma) in pictures and on the web cam! Melts there hearts and his Mama's too!!

Secret

I watched the best show of the year today! My baby doing stretching and finger sucking on an ultrasound. You couldn't wipe the smile off my face! How sweet you were little one! Kind of stubborn at first laying on your back and then folded into a pretzel! But we were able to see everything we needed to know that you are a healthy little peanut!!! You definitely are going to have your Daddy's lips like your brother has. We're pretty sure you're going to have Mommy's crooked pinkie fingers too! Amazing the things you can know today before you even make your grand entrance!!

Your secret is still safe with you! I do have the answer to that special secret tucked away into a beautiful red envelope waiting for your Daddy to come home. I don't even feel the need to peek by holding it up to the sunlight. Crazy, huh, little one! I love, love, love surprises, and if your Daddy didn't want to know so bad I think I could keep that envelope sealed for days. But I also think it will be fun to open that up together and see the picture of your little secret!

Until then little one, I love you more and more with each passing day!

New Words and Such

You're new words lately are:

up, haut (hot, with specific emphasis on the "t" sound), cat, hat (again emphasizing the "t"), ases (ashes, ashes we all fall down)

I've tried and tried to teach you the sign for "more", but you insist on using your own sign, shaking your hand up and down repeatedly. It's too cute to worry about it not being the actual sign. Just makes it more unique to you.

You are pointing at everything lately. You love that this now can get you what you want. I love it because we are communicating! It's so fun to see what your needs and wants are Monkey.

Decisions

I've had something bugging me for the past month or so. My bestest friend would tell you it's stressing me out too much. I would tell you I'm over-analyzing it and trying to avoid what I avoid best....change.

I'm a nurse. Nurses work 12-hour shifts. My wonderful hubby is a superintendent for an always busy oilfield company. Needless to say, his hours and whereabouts are unpredictable. My mother-in-law has so graciously agreed to watch Monkey for us when we are both at work, which involves being at our house sometimes as early as 5:15 in the morning....ugh. Then she would take Monkey for the day, so I could get some sleep coming off the night-shift.

I've switched to days this week (which by the way has been a wonderful switch for me.....I'm much more rested just in one week), but my husband has also left to work away from home on a 3 week on/3 week off schedule....double ugh. When I first returned to work after maternity leave, I was dreading it. I wanted to stay home and be a Mommy. Not miss out on my little man's day. Being the insurance provider, that wasn't an option though. So I begrudgingly went to work. Lo and behold, I enjoyed my two shifts a week. I could get away and get the adult conversation and know that I was still good at doing something besides being a Mommy. I almost felt a little bit guilty that I enjoyed my time at work so much. But I didn't let that get to me (for once in my life).

Before I switched to days, we asked my MIL if she was stilling willing to watch Monkey b/c it now could potentially be a wake-up to bed time day for the both of them. She was willing. But we also discussed her willingness when the new baby comes, and she was more reluctant. Fine by us. She is suppose to be a Grandma not a day care. We completely respected that decision.

Now with my Hubby gone for such long stretches of time, I started stressing again about whether I should be working again, whether I should look for something in Day Surgery that would give me 10-hour days, whether I should start looking to enroll Monkey in day care now. Lots of decision and so came the tears and stress level with it. Our problem is that there is not a trustworthy day care that operates on our crazy hours. If we had a regular 7-5 work day, life would be easy. But we don't. And in-home day care service scares the begeebers out of me (you always hear all those neglect and abuse stories). I could never put Monkey or our new baby in one without knowing hands down that it was legit.

So I started looking for insurance quotes online to get a rough idea of what we would be looking at if I did have to quit my job. That brought that idea to a screeching halt b/c either they don't cover maternity or you have to be with the plan for 12 months. Ain't happenin'. This baby is coming in 5 months.

All of sudden the stress level disappeared. I knew what we had to do. I have to stay working until this baby comes and then we will reevaluate our needs and wants. Yes, it will be a little stressful and inconvenient when my MIL is gone for 6 weeks starting mid-May and then again starting beginning of August until the baby is born. We'll deal though.

How come I made this such a stress ball for myself? It was that easy. Sometimes I just shake my head at myself and my idiosyncrasies. Decisions have always been killer for me. Thank goodness we always learn something new out of them.

How Long?

Looking down at my shirt after putting Monkey down this afternoon, I realized I had a boogey woogey (our lingo for a booger b/c I don't like that word) on my shirt.

We've been to JoAnn's and Freddy's.

How long has it been there?

Hmmmm....comes with being a Mommy, right!
