tummy woes
you mentioned this morning, as we were pulling out of the neighborhood, that your "tummy hurts a little". i asked if you needed to go back home and go potty. "nope, mom. it's all right!" so off we went to soccer.
halfway through soccer you were rubbing your tummy and not much into participating all of a sudden, so we took a trip to the potty. (your first time on a public "loud potty" too!) no luck at the potty, but you seemed to feel better. back out to soccer we went for a little hard kicks practice and parachute time.
so far still good. you've been asking to get your hair cut for a week now, so i decided to oblige you.
not many cars in the parking lot. looking good. stylists sitting in their chairs chatting when we come in. looking even better. my super star boy sitting like a king on his throne and enjoying every minute of his haircut. score! (for the record. of all the haircuts you've had. and you've had a few bc your hair grows at breakneck speed and is all thick and fabulous like your daddy's. i've only had one where it was juggling act to keep you still and happy!)
you pick out your sucker. mom very quickly sets the sucker basket down before your brother harvests a handful of potential sticky wonderfulness for his own. i'm signing the receipt when i feel you tug on my sweatshirt and say "mommy, i want to go home" in such a little voice. when i look down to reassure you, it happens. you lost your tummy. all over the floor. not once but twice. you barely even blinked an eye. no tears. no whimpering. just a "now i can eat my sucker mommy".
unfortunately, you didn't understand why i promptly handed your sucker to your brother and sat him in the nearest chair. so i could attend to your coat/pant/shoes and the floor. thankfully, the young boy and his father (who had front row seats) were inches far enough away that i wasn't cleaning their shoes/pants. and the sweet teenage girl seating across the waiting area came over to keep you and your brother company while i scrubbed the tummy juice off the floor and disappeared to the back of the salon to deposit said rags.
another unfortunate, we experienced round two after nap. the couch, the beloved blankie. but thankfully, this time we were in the comforts of our own without everyone in the world watching and waiting behind us.
i'm sorry you had to have it happen this way. mommy should have taken you home. but honestly, i thought you were doing better. my mommy and nurse intuition failed me monkey.
unhappy tummies and boo day probably wouldn't make a good combo. i so hope you wake up with a happy tummy in the morning.
sweetest dreams love!!

You Count
Gabe said to me this morning, as I was cleaning the kitchen up from breakfast, "you go count Mom. In that room. I'll hide."
Off I went to the dining room for a little impromptu hide-and-go-seek!! I'm counting away, and as I'm at 3, 4, 5, I hear one of the kitchen chairs slide across the floor. I continue to ten (silently wondering why he needs to pull the chair around to hide) and give the "ready or not, here I come" bit.
As I walk into the kitchen, he is half-way up the chair with a gigantic mischievous grin on his face. The chair that he pulled over to the candy dish to snag a Snickers or Almond Joy out of!! Not only was he pulling his chair over, but he almost pulled the wool over my eyes! He had absolutely no intention of hiding!
He's not even three, and he's already being sneaky!! And playing his Momma!! I fear what lies ahead of us!!!!
