Weaning....ugh!

Why can't weaning the bottle be as easy as weaning the breast was? This is murder! He is in screaming his bloody head off right now instead laying down to take his nap. We've gone without a bottle for our afternoon nap for 4 out of the last 5 days. It's killing me! And he's only getting more attached to them. I don't know if we should just go cold turkey and take the bedtime and wake up bottle away too or continue with this gradual process. We've got to keep going though because he is starting to expect them now. I never ever in a million years figured this was going to be this hard!

He acts like I'm playing some dirty trick when I give him his milk in a sippy cup. It's even warmed up, and he still looks at it like it's crazy. I'm top of it all I'm concerned that he's not going to get his calcium like he needs too. I can only give him so much yogurt and cheese.

The whole weaning process was suppose to have started a month ago but then came the Rotavirus, then burnt fingers, and now a nasty cold. I decided there was always going to be something and just get the show on the road, but this s.u.c.k.s larger than life. We read our books, and I give him the sippy cup to "drink". He knows that the inevitable bed is coming though and starts to pitch a fit. I'm so tired of the fight. He never used to fight his naps like he does now. Is is a stage? How long is going to last? I know nobody has the answers but ugh......

A Sneak Peak

Today was our first prenatal appointment for Peanut #2! Everything went great! We were able to sneak a peak of our little bambino swimming away! How sweet those wiggles are.....almost surreal to realize we are actually doing it again. It made it all so real today, and it felt wonderful! All those new baby feelings come soaring back.

At this point, we have the due date calculated as August 27, 2009. Yet, my uterus is measuring much further along.....around 15 weeks when the due date says I'm 11 weeks. Not sure why exactly! That's why were able to sneak a quick peak at the baby to catch a quick measurement and see what the ultrasound said.....12 weeks, 4 days!! So we are going in on Tuesday for the Ultrascreen which should give us a good idea for due date! Either way, it was so exciting to get started on our journey! Many months ahead that I'm sure will go much faster than we realize. I can't wait!!

Hot, hot!

So I get the bad Mommy of the week award. I never have any sort of curling iron or such going because it takes too much time. I got a flat iron for Christmas and Monday I thought I'd see if it could tame my hair as I didn't have time for a shower. I plugged it in and set it on the counter in the bathroom. Monkey was playing away, and I didn't even think about him reaching up to the edge of the counter.....you see where this is going?!

He reached up and grabbed for it and burnt his middle and ring finger on his right hand. I felt absolutely horrible. It was so awful to watch him shake and swing his arm around. He was fine as long as it was under cool water. Needless to say, we both were pretty wet after we got the burn to cool down a bit. They immediately blistered up with the middle being the worse. He is an index and middle finger sucker on his right hand too, so he couldn't even pacify himself. Poor little guy! Ugh!!

He managed to tolerate sucking a bit though and sucking the blister off that night. We tried wrapping it, but he only succeeded in biting it off. I didn't want to put anything on it at night and have him choke on it!

Now the ring finger is protected by a big nasty blister and the other is scabbed over pretty bed. Just a watch and see game at this point. On top of this, he now has a nasty cold with the pinkest chapped cheeks. My poor little Monkey....Momma's so very sorry!! Love you!

The cone again....

Tomorrow we take Shiloh back to vet to get her six sutures out of her nose. The cone will come off only to be stored away until the next unfortunate incident!

A little history on her. She will be 3 in June and has already been to visit the vet on an emergent basis four times. I swear accidents search her out!

This time she appeared at the deck door with a cut nose. Not a clue as to how she did it. We can speculate that Sam caught it with a tooth when they were wrestling or that she caught a sharp branch in the yard. We'll never know! Just like we'll never know how she cut her foot so badly a year ago that she needed sutures and the cone for 2 weeks or how she developed a severe allergic reaction that caused her face to swell so bad her eyes closed up.

She has always kind of been a drama queen, but the drama really comes out when you put her in the cone for 2 weeks. Her eyes tell the story.....like we have crushed her for life! Silly dog! Hopefully we can now retire the cone for longer than a year!

Things you are doing....

You are becoming such a little individual Monkey! Your Momma and Dada are amazed everyday by you! Here are a few things you have been up to lately!

  • You got your first haircut last week! You sat like such a big boy! Didn't make a fuss once. I was pretty nervous that you weren't going to like it. You proved me wrong, and I'm sure that won't be the first time you do that! You look like such a big boy now! It made your Momma shed a few tears over those baby locks that are gone forever, and the little boy that emerged underneath.
  • You have started to dance. It's the cutest thing ever! Whether it be the head bob while your sitting down or the semi-squat when your standing up! The first song you danced to without any prompting was John Mayer's "Say".....we taught you a taste for good music little man!!
  • Lights on.....you have figured out how to turn the light switch on in your room from your crib. Yes, we knew there would come a day where it would happen, but we didn't think it would be this soon. You are too smart for your britches. Monday morning when I went to get you up, there was a glow coming from under your door. It was brighter than all get out in there....that must have been a shock to your eyes when you discovered that. I thought maybe it was a one time deal....nope....after your nap it was the same thing. You now have tape over your light switch thinking maybe you'll "forget" about it after a few days.....why do I think that won't be the case. Why don't we move your crib? Because there isn't another place in the room for it. We have to invest in a different light switch....time will tell!
  • Yesterday you wondered off down the hall, and I knew the laundry room door was open. I followed after you to see what you were up to. I walked into the laundry room, and you were just standing there with your hand on the washer (it was going through it's spin cycle). It was like a magnetic force had you drawn to it. You stood there through the entire cycle just feeling the vibration! Guess you had to be there....
  • You love to give the dogs there treats in the morning. As soon as you hear the treat jar open, you come running from whatever you are doing to help! Mom throws Shiloh her treat, and Sam waits patiently for you to throw him his treat. He knows he has to be quick because it comes straight down and fast! You are giggling the whole time and think it's quite funny when he manages to catch it before it hits the ground!!

Just a few things little man....we love you!

A Little Brother or Sister.....

To our sweet little peanut growing inside of me, it has been exactly one month since we found out you were nestled inside! I haven't blogged about you yet because I didn't want to jinx anything. I'm confident now that you are growing in leaps and bounds. Your little heart is beating away, and your sweet little arms are folded over that precious heart! I already love you like crazy!! I can't wait to go to see the doctor next week and be amazed by your heartbeat!

You are due to meet us at the end of summer. You are going to be protected forever by the best big brother anyone could ever ask for. He has a heart of gold, and I know he is going to be so excited to meet you also! He will show you so many things little one! God blessed us with him, and now He has blessed us with you! We are so incredibly excited to begin this journey with you!!

To My Son~

A year ago today, your Daddy and I were admiring your 10 tiny finger and 10 tiny toes. We couldn't believe the head of dark hair that you had or the bright blue eyes that were so observant of all that was going on. You were taking it all in and making sure not to miss an ounce of this new world that you were a part of. You had such a strong little grip and were a great nurser from first feeding. You have Daddy's toes and Mommy's crooked pinkies. You have a cleft in your chin like Grandpa L. and have kept those beautiful blue eyes like Grandpa K. Your Daddy and I were a bit nervous to bring you home but ready to introduce you to your new bedroom and the puppies. We were awestruck by the magnitude of love we felt for you.

Now today, one year later, we are still awestruck by that love we have for you. You are simply amazing little man! We can't believe how you have grown from that little tiny baby into such a independent little boy....all in just one year! Momma still loves to kiss those little chubby feet every morning. You now have a head full of thick brown hair, and you held onto those amazing blue eyes. You are walking and never looked back. You love to stack your blocks and fill your dump truck. You are such a good page turner when we read your books. You love to sneak into the pantry and find the broom to "sweep" with. Just yesterday, you started to connect your Mega Blocks...all on your own! How did you get so smart? Your laugh is from deep in your belly and is so very contagious. Your smile lights up a room and makes your Momma's heart grow each time.

Everyone tells you to cherish each and every moment because the years go too fast. I now can appreciate that statement. Your first year went way too fast little Monkey! I only know that the each one is going to go faster too. It makes me tear up just thinking about it! You make your Momma and Daddy so very proud little one! Try not to grow up so fast and we'll keep cherishing each and every moment! Happy 1st Birthday Monkey! Your Momma loves you forever and always to the moon and back!
